Volunteer Group Membership

Parents Supporting Parents in Grief or PSPG is a volunteer group that is comprised of parents who have suffered the loss of a baby and who want to use their experience to comfort and serve others. PSPG was formed in 1997 and is included in the Northside Hospital Auxiliary, which supports its efforts in representing the hospital.

There are several levels of the PSPG group.  Each level requires an interview and approval by the PNL Office.

  •  Level 1:  This level involves helping in the PNL Office with various projects such as working on our PNL Scrapbooks and putting together packets.  This requires membership in the Northside Hospital Auxiliary and attendance at the Auxiliary orientation (a two-hour class).

  • Level 2:  This level involves helping in the PNL Office on a more involved level.  This can include filing of paperwork and keepsakes, addressing envelopes, organizing volunteer nights and scrapbooking sessions, and coordinating the Atlanta Walk to Remember. This requires membership in the Northside Hospital Auxiliary, attendance at the Auxiliary orientation (a two-hour class), and being a minimum of 9 months out from your loss.

  • Level 3:   The next level of PSPG allows for providing support for other bereaved parents. It also requires membership in the Auxiliary and attendance at the Auxiliary orientation (a two-hour class). In addition, you must be at least 12 months past the date of your loss and attend our bereavement training course. Then, volunteer opportunities can include but are not limited to:

Offering email and telephone support to other bereaved parents (assigned

and facilitated by the Perinatal Loss Office)

Co-facilitating the Northside Hospital Perinatal Loss Support Groups

Editing and maintaining our website and/or newsletter

Moderating an online PNL message board

Editing/maintaining a volunteer newsletter

Assisting with workshops and presentations

Volunteering can reaffirm a person’s sense of self-worth. It can remind us to be grateful for life’s blessings and support a feeling of community with others. If you would like to volunteer in some capacity, you may contact the Perinatal Loss office at (404) 851-8177 or pnl@atlantapnl.com.

Keepsake Boxes

Our goal is to provide a keepsake box to each family who has lost a baby.  Boxes should be decorated appropriately and should be big enough to hold a folded baby blanket, a baby gown, a small stuffed animal, and any other keepsakes, pictures, and mementos that parents might collect.  Any donations are greatly appreciated!
